Photobioreactors can be used to grow cells by providing an environment for photosynthesis. We were challanged to make this primarily with items we found in the trash so we inverted a soda bottle and filled it with water and a low concentration of algae. We cut off the bottom of another bottle to use as a stand to stabalize the reactor. We also fed a pump to the bottom of the reactor that would blow air bubbles to continually mix the solution. The system was placed next to an artificial light source.
